Tivoli Gardens and Villa Adriana

Pick up at the arranged place in Rome we will drive you to the old and picturesque town of Tivoli. This is located just 28 kilometers away from Rome, on the slopes of the Apennine mountains. From the ancient times, the Romans took advantage of Tivoli’s mild climate, thermal waters, rich vegetation and proximity to Rome to spend here their vacations. Roman suburban villas were located in the area since the 1st century BC.Tivoli’s most famous Roman villa is Hadrian’s Villa, Emperor Hadrian’s refuge from the chaos of the capital. We will stop here for visit.(ticket not included) The largest and more luxurious villa of all times covering an area of 300 acres.

It was here that Adriano implemented his revolutionary ideas on architecture. We continued our tours to the Renaissance Villa d’Este who was built in the 1550s for Cardinal Ippolito d’Este, the son of Lucretia Borgia. Built over a Benedictine convent, the palace was intended for entertaining and contains lavishly frescoed reception rooms. The main attraction for visitors, however, is the breathtaking garden. Designed to impress the Cardinal’s guests, the Villa d’Este’s gardens are composed almost exclusively of water features. Fountains of every description dazzle the onlooker, from the grand ‘Fountain of the Dragons’ and ‘Hundred Fountains’, to a miniature watery reproduction of Rome. The centrepiece, the gigantic Water Organ Fountain, cascades down a huge drop into quiet, shady pools.
